Autumn 2009
As part of our topic on the Great Fire of London the younger pupils looked at a really great web-site on the White Board together. We worked as a group to brainstorm fire words - great fun!
Mrs Helliwell was really thrilled with the eye-witness accounts the older pupils wrote about life during the Great Fire of London: -
"I saw the flames leaping from the Baker's shop. The wind was helping the flames to spread the fire. House to house, miliyns of people died. I ran to the stable and saved my horse. I ran away to the River Thames." by Erin
"My name is Lewis Williams. Sunday 2nd September I woke up my house was on fire! I saw fire leaping out of a baker's shop. Oh no! I said. I ran out. I went on a boat on the River Thames. Oh No! I said. The next day it got worse. I ran into a church for safety. I am safe!" By Sam
"My name is Tom McCoy. On Sunday September 2nd 1666 I woke up. I looked out of my window I saw a fire I ran downsters. I grabbed my child. I ran out. Help! I said. Then I saw another person he was very close to the fire. I said No!
What? he said and ignored me and suddenly he fell into the fire. I decided to make a plan. The plan was to collect some water and throw it over the fire. It worked but lots of houses were burnt." By Robert C
"Da iawn Pawb!" says Mrs Hellliwell.
Year 2 have been thinking about Autumn prior to our own Harvest Festival next Wednesday. They wrote some fantastic and colourful acrostic poems which can be seen on the gallery (this is easily found from the Home page). In the meantime here is a particularly colourful one to whet your appetite.
