Year 6

The best way you be prepared for the transition to secondary school is to ensure you have a confident grasp of the basics in Maths and English. Time spent ensuring that your knowledge of tables is good would really help. In terms of reading, it is important that you can read and understand a wide variety of texts, so be encouraged to read as much as you can.

School Council

Ysgol Llanbedr has just been awarded the Bronze Award for being an Eco School. In order to gain the Silver Award we need to come up with an eco-code. Our code needs to sum up what we are doing to be an Eco School. We would like as many ideas as possible so then we can decide which one to use. Here are some examples.

Example 1

Walk to school.

Only use what you need.

Recycle and reuse.

Lights out when not in use.

Don't drop litter.

Example 2

We will recycle paper and cans.

We will put litter in the bin.

We will compost fruit and vegetable waste.

We will close doors and turn off lights to save energy.

We will look after our garden and wildlife.

Please give your eco-codes to Miss Fellows or a member of the School Council after the Easter holidays.

Competition time!

The Sustrans School Travel team is currently running a competition for English and Welsh schools. Pupils from Key Stages two and three are being invited to share what they would tell the government to do to make it easier for them to cycle or walk to school.

Pupils are being asked to write a letter or a newspaper editorial containing their ideas and thoughts for the chance to win some great prizes including: £1000 worth of walking and cycling equipment for their school, a brand new bike and other cycling and walking related goodies.

For more information, including how an entry template on which all entries must be made, go to www.sustrans.org.uk/schooltravel. Closing date is 5pm 1st April 2010 so entries should be sent to school by Friday 26th March.

INFANT TOPIC: this term's work is on the theme of the weather and so pupils are encouraged to draw a snowman and fill him with cold weather words. This type of brainstorming activity is a really good start to developing thinking skills across the curriculum.
