Summer 2010
We have been working to achieve all of our targets on our action plan and have achieved most of them but still have a little bit of work to do and need to keep up all of the hard work we have done so far. Everyone can help though. Even if you just stick to our healthy eating rule of eating healthy snacks 4 days a week and then having treat Friday.
After lots of decisions we have finally decided on our eco-code.
Our eco code is:
Eat healthy food and have treat Friday.
Come to our school on a bike or walk if you can.
Oour lights, computers, projectors must be turned off when we are not using them.
Come to our school and help our environment.
Our school grounds are kept tidy by litter pickers but we must remember not to drop litter.
Do not put all of your rubbish in the bin but use the recycling.
Everyone pay attention as this is our eco code.
Good news! We have now been awarded the Silver Eco Schools Award! After the summer holidays we will be working on reaching green flag level which is the highest award.
Spring 2010
The School Council have been working very hard this term. We have ordered a co-mingled recycling bin so everyone in school can recycle paper, card, plastic, glass and tin. We have come up with a timetable for monitors to collect the recycling bins from each class every week so that they can be emptied into the big recycling bin in the car park. We have also made a timetable for us to have regular litter pickers and leaf sweepers in school but hopefully no-one will be dropping litter!
We have just been awarded the Bronze Eco Schools Award. To gain the Bronze Award we have had to carry out a survey of what we already do to make the school eco friendly and what we could do to make it more eco friendly. The School Council then came up with an action plan on what we were going to do to make school more eco friendly. Our action plan incudes targets, how we are going to achieve the targets and we will then have to fill in our success criteria when we achieve each target. Our action plan includes targets like eating healthier food in school, saving energy and recycling. Our next step is to tell the rest of the school what we have been doing and how we can work towards the Silver Eco Schools Award as a whole school.
Autumn 2009
"On Wednesday morning the School Council went on a trip to the Environmental work in Ruthin and we had to put on a helmet and a vest. After that we went across a road and to a river. We looked at all the work they have done to stop the floods coming again.
The people who showed us around had given us a pencil and some paper on cardboard because we were going to draw a picture of the river. The people who showed us around said that there were some fish in the river, but none of us saw a fish. Then we headed back and we took off our helmet and vest. A lady was meant to come and judge the pictures that we had drawn of the river. Then Mrs Smith took us back to school. I enjoyed the visit and seeing the crane taking the rocks into the river." By Charlotte Chrisham
The construction work consists of a weir and a recording station which is used to measure river flow. This should really help in the fight against further local flooding. There is also a type of fish-gate which means that fish can still migrate despite the new weir. Sadly there is no point in the rest of us visiting the site now as the new works are already covered by the river flow, so these pupils ahve seen something that none of us will probably ever see!
